ben4ipswich The renaissance of the Waterfront will soon be complete now that the Winerack project has been fully funded. It has been a long and difficult journey but it feels great to have finally got there. #partnership #progress #regeneration #waterfront #ipswich #IpswichRising #winerack

    The renaissance? Is Ben okay?

    Ben Gummer Ipswich Waterfront renaissance

renaissance means a new growth of activity or interest in something, especially art, literature, or music. It is a French word meaning rebirth. For some reason Ben likes to interchangeably use French and Italian words from time to time. Perhaps his foreign languages isn’t as strong as his history? Shame he is unable to grasp his native language English so well.

Perhaps Ben should layoff using the thesaurus, but of course, renaissance sounds much more fancy than “regeneration”. It still doesn’t change the fact that even when the Wine Rack is finally finished with government funding, the block is likely to remain at least half vacant. I am sure they could install some RGB flood lights inside the rooms and stick a laser on the roof, to create a light show attraction for the Ipswich Waterfront. Either way, it doesn’t change the monstrosity at the Stoke Bridge end.

Look on the bright side, as soon as the stalled residential development has been resuscitated, it unlocks the “Enterprise Island” for half residential development. Yes, not solely commercial. The Island site has in recent times been allocated for 70% residential with a little park. Suffolk County Council expects around 380 homes built on the site, but don’t be surprised if Cambridge Uni and BT pulls out or invests in just a modest sized single office block with the remainder housing. It wouldn’t surprise me at all.

what is all this “finally there” about? Where I come from you are there when you arrive and not when you set off, in fact with some of this its not even set off yet, the tickets are bought, the bags are packed but they’ve not left home yet…. and it could all still go wrong…

Indeed, but surely the final piece of the Ipswich Waterfront is the “Enterprise Island” (leaving out Stoke Bridge end as apparently that isn’t part of it), the bridge still needs doing.

Is “It was a long road“, a Northern Bypass reference?  Hopefully not.
