Annoyed at Lib Dem candidate… 1p tax rise – sounds good, a favourite of politicians – but 1% increase, 1p in the pound!

    Already mention of Northern Bypass…

Ipswich’s Homelessness problem had been highlighted a lot on the programme (without much mention of brexit, as they had expected). One father on the programme said he witnessed 5-6 homeless people drug-dealing in the town centre at around 10am when he was with his son.

I wonder if this will swing the voting? Ben Gummer’s focus on luxury apartments and the waterfront area is directly at the expense of residents and the town centre. The reason why homelessness is increasing in Ipswich is Ben Gummer’s Conservative Party cutting welfare and the lack of jobs. It is directly sucking wealth away from the poor, and into the hands of the rich. Many more residents are using food banks – they work and struggle with the rent.

Ben can forge figures as to he sees fit, but clearly the streets of Ipswich town centre tells another story. Ipswich has a rather good homeless strategy. What you see on the streets is just a small part of the problem.

No surprise that Ipswich Borough Council has STEP’d up to deal with the problem…  Short Term Emergency Provision of Beds (STEP)

Ipswich Borough Council is inviting quotations for the supply/provision of short term emergency beds.

A tender has gone out lasting for a year. The council knows there is a problem but I am sure this is an ongoing tender exercise. Many homeless are kept in cheap hotels and B&Bs across the town. Ben Gummer ignores that it is a problem. It is appalling.

I will look into the email problem. Not sure what is wrong.

The radio trailing annoyed me somewhat – probably only me. 😀

It wasn’t too bad overall, very selected people spoke despite a small crowd (overall wasn’t all that popular but then again it wasn’t really promoted that well). More people must have wrote on the whiteboard than uploaded on twitter. Overall I wasted 3 hours of my life that I won’t get back.

Ben showed his true colours. Sandy went off script showing real passion (about Ben blocking council homes in Ravenswood and a – I will confirm later – £4m legal bill for the council), Ben was quick to counter. Gullible people would have said Ben won, down to earth people would probably arrive to the same conclusion as me.

I will review the iplayer version.

Ben Gummer Tory Vs Sandy Martin Labour, Cornhill Giles Circus BBC Battle Bus

BBC photo. Sandy Martin looks to be keep eye contact with BBC Radio Suffolk presenter Mark Murphy, while Ben Gummer seems more interested in deciphering the presenters agenda by reading his notes. Clever you may say? Probably not when a BBC member of staff has a camera. He would have known, it wasn’t a member of the public with their mobile phone taking a cheeky snap. School boy error.
