    Inspired by Martin C’s post about Arras Square illegal parking, I was intrigued to learn the other day about Ipswich Borough Council enforcing parking restrictions before the legislation came into place?

    Has the wide abuse of double-side parking on Princes Street stopped?

    It looked much better yesterday, no cars parked on the west side at all. A couple of other things intrigue me about the works there;

    at the southern end in the footpath there are a coupel of small areas of unfinished paving, presumably still some more signs to go into those, we will wait and see.

    the bike racks they used look to have been salvaged from somewhere else as they came with stickers attached that I don’t hink have anything to do with their current location, plus they looked second hand! pity they were not cleaned up before they were installed,

    I note that some of the paving is sinking down towards the south end, plus they have already repaired one manhole cover which sunk, so usual standard of SCC contractors workmanship… lets see how long it is before it gets a “temporary” black top patch in the road somewhere… I reckon it will be within 2 months, and then be like it for at least two years..

    very angry now, don't like inappropriate censorship,

    The second hand bike racks are interesting – you would expect with the large cost for them to be new, however, there is nothing wrong with re-salvaging them to save cost. Removing all stickers and paint etc and repainting them. Just sticking old ones in is really poor and shows the council’s mentality.

    The extra sweet thing is by doing a bad job they line themselves up for more work! This is a nationwide abuse with contracting out the highways maintenance. I find it shocking that the councils not only put up with it but defend them. Slightly different in Ipswich of course as Suffolk County Council wants the disruptions to destroy the town.

    Next week will be a big indicator of this. It is going to be chaos! I keep seeing more electronic signs being put up, of some big expense. I still don’t understand why it will take so long for the traffic lights.
