New Argos opened inside Sainsburys Warren Heath. To celebrate there is an employee desperately trying to get people to drink or eat cake!
12pm, car park full (or really close to it), new Argos section of Sainsburys… an array of ipads… a table with a cake slices and glasses of Bucks Fizz (if you don’t know it is a “cocktail” of Champagne and Orange Juice – can assume the champagne is disgusting – not the 80s pop group that won Eurovision) … no one to be seen within 50 metres…
This is a public announcement as I feel sorry for the employee who despite trying desperately hard to get people to take a freebie is getting ignored and avoided. Poor girl.
I should have took a photo… the time I thought about it one person did go into Argos to use the Ipad, but avoided the free drink and cake, by going to the opposite part. He wandered off shortly afterwards.
Rather ironic, people love free food sampling… but this shows how their master plan of reduced costs by sticking (small) Argos stores into Sainsburys supermarkets isn’t going to work. No one wants to order in items – Tesco Direct perhaps but Argos? No. To increase stockroom they will need to reduce the space for the supermarket… nothing worse than when a supermarket doesn’t have half the items on your shopping list!
People drive to supermarkets so alcohol isn’t a clever idea (one person while I was there decline because they are driving), cake is full on and Bucks Fizz and cake isn’t a good combination!
If they decided to take a potential loss of sales across their supermarket for the day of perhaps £90 maximum (turnover not profit!) – having what people would refer to as “party food” would have been a better option. I hope it picks up for them so the drink doesn’t need to be poured down the sink and cake stuck in the bin.
