In a very shocking letter posted on twitter, former Ipswich MP and now Conservative candidate for Ipswich Ben Gummer has alienated what appears to be a large number of pensioners and women in Ipswich. The letter clearly shows an MP (at the time of writing) under-pressure over being unable to move away from toeing the party line. After all, Ben Gummer promised in 2010 to put Ipswich first and not himself or his party – and he has done the complete opposite ever since.
one of the biggests acts of inter-generational theft
A brief text version of the letter is follows (poor grammar etc. an original feature – see below)…
Thank you for coming to see me last month and for your follow up email. I am sorry to be replying slightly later than I had intended to, as well as for the fact that I continue to disagree with you on this issue, along with a number my colleagues in the House of Commons.
I would be more than happy to meet as many Ipswich Waspi women as can fit around my constituency office table, although I am afraid that my diary now means that such a meeting will be dependent upon my being returned as Member of Parliament for Ipswich in June. I should also warn you that, while I will continue to listen to your arguments, I consider myself very unlikely to change my mind. I believe that, should what Waspi are asking for be delivered, it would be one of the biggest acts of inter-generational theft carried out by a government in my lifetime, particularly when it has already gone to great lengths to protect and improve state pensions.
This letter is rude, unprofessional and poor grammar. It screams of someone who doesn’t want to be re-elected… he does for the bridge and increased responsibilities… must be under a lot of stress.
Letter to WASPI member Sue
This is a shocking part of Ben Gummer’s General Election 2017 Campaign… I assume he expected them to upload a copy of the letter?3 weeks, 3 days ago #3941
I posted this about 6 hours ago… there has been a steady opposition of twitter postings to @ben4ipswich
Ben was taking a big risk sending such a letter just before Parliament was dissolved where he would no longer be an MP but an Candidate.
Labour were hit hard in the county elections, but Labour were pretty strong in Ipswich in particular the South East and South West.3 weeks, 3 days ago #3944
Quite a betrayal looking back at 2010…
WASPI and the Ben Gummer Contract
The letter clearly shows he is putting both his party and himself first (1), he isn’t being positive about people’s lives (2) and that he isn’t available (5) by delaying his reply, so he becomes a candidate thus unable to meet. Ben cannot be that busy as a candidate…
