ideal chance for SCC, Sandy Martin, Dan Poutler, Ipswich Star et al, to see what Ipswich is going to be like ALL THE TIME after we add thousands more houses and thousands more journeys without any relief road or full bypass!

so there's been a tragic loss of life and a tractor was involved! An unsolicited comment about the bridge and the speed limit from a friend (regular bridge user) about a week ago said one of the most dangerous aspects of the bridge is tractors using it at busy times... oh dear...

This is the picture at 10:33am. Black lines (as the key indicates) are carriageways which aren't moving.

Usually the politics is about whether a bridge should close for a "bit of wind". I was saddened to hear someone lost their life in this incident. It follows a number of incidents recently on the bridge. The last one only being yesterday, but we are told, the bridge is rarely closed, and the new 60mph speed limit with cameras will reduce the few incidents there are.

I would be surprised if the tractor was doing as much as 60mph let alone exceeding this.

I was anticipating a bridge closure by the end of November, possibly brought forward for Storm Brian... as high winds are anticipated at the weekend. I was thinking the latter only yesterday, as it is more windy up on the bridge than it is on ground level. This isn't a full closure of the Orwell Bridge but the impact is unacceptable. There has been numerous incidents on the bridge in the last week.

Every bus service in the town has been impacted. Inner-Ipswich journeys are congested with delays. So it is more than Felixstowe based traffic coming through Ipswich being bad on our health. The cost to the local economy must be pretty severe, but no one at Suffolk CoC wants a Northern Bypass.

Every Ipswich Star article based upon the Orwell Bridge, I have been moving into its own little forum... Orwell Bridge With other traffic problems going into another one... Ipswich Travel & Roads Ipswich Star only picks up certain cases, so this isn't exhaustive.

I must end by saying how nice some people are on social media by appreciating that despite the traffic nightmare (some people claim to have been in their vehicles for a couple of hours) that there has been a fatality here. Disappointed that comments have been disabled... but they don't want people harping on about a Northern Bypass do they? I mean their secret campaign is still ongoing and all...

This is the link to yesterday's crash on Orwell Bridge... Car and lorry crash causing delays on Orwell Bridge, Ipswich

A week ago there were two incidents at rush hour... A14 Orwell Bridge rush hour delays as lorry breaks down and Delays on Orwell Bridge eastbound after crash involving lorry and car

Not all incidents are picked up by Ipswich Star, I frequently check the Fire Services' live incident map.. and in the last week they had been called out a couple of times to the bridge (outside of the times mentioned above).

Person in this office, well over an hour late just getting in from Sproughton. There is a lively debate on the Radio Suffolk facebook page, many commenting NBP is our only answer...

I suspect if winds are as predicted bridge will closed tomorrow. Pity the football is not on then, as maybe if Norfolk people were held up then others may take the problem more seriously,!

            Police statement...

            Serious collision on A14

It annoys me that the police:-
            • Never seem to say Orwell Bridge (referring to "between junction 56, Wherstead and 57, Nacton")
            • The manufacturer and model of the van was specified, but the other vehicle was a "large agricultural vehicle" (everyone assumes a tractor, but why not more information?)
