    Orwell Bridge Closures: Driving Hours

by dan5 in Orwell Bridge ClosuresOct 20, 2017 with 0 replies and 46 views.

One of the various typically forgotten about factors when it comes to severe congestion is driving hours.708 The circled lorries were parked at the side of the road. We do not know why, but it is probable they are close to exceeding their legal driving hours limit. If this is the case, they have no choice but to stop.

    Orwell Bridge Closures: Traffic

by dan5 in Orwell Bridge ClosuresOct 20, 2017 with 0 replies and 36 views.

Orwell Bridge closures cause congestion on estates around the town. This is Pinewood outside Suffolk ONE. The difference is this wasn't taken in morning or evening rush hour, not particularly lunch rush and not school run. It was taken at quarter to two in the afternoon. You will notice absence of Suffolk ONE students. Traffic was queuing past this roundabout but drivers were good not to block it. 706 This sight isn't too unfamiliar. It is...

    Orwell Bridge Closures: Inconsiderate Drivers

by dan5 in Orwell Bridge ClosuresOct 20, 2017 with 0 replies and 36 views.

Not limited to Orwell Bridge closures - typically during rush hour - drivers can be very inconsiderate to other motorists and pedestrians. Under no circumstances should roundabouts, junctions or crossings be obstructed. However, every time the Orwell Bridge does close, roundabouts (such as this one) get gridlocked. Even with notices on the road it happens. 704 Arguably lorries from the A12 and A14 wouldn't be doing themselves any favours...

    Orwell Bridge Closures: Idiot Drivers

by dan5 in Orwell Bridge ClosuresOct 20, 2017 with 0 replies and 34 views.

Unfortunately, people get hot tempered, they panic... and what is generally a decreasing standard of road users with poor discipline, comes some complete idiots. Being polite of course.703 You cannot really tell in this photo. I first tried to tell the driver off with shaking my head and the no-no gesture. Circled is a child, you cannot see too clearly in the photo which is only good for privacy reasons. Yes you guessed it... this car wants...

Orwell Bridge Closures: Public Transport mayhem

by dan5 in Orwell Bridge ClosuresOct 20, 2017 with 0 replies and 34 views.

An Orwell Bridge closure cannot be solved by people using public transport. Removing cars off the road entirely - theoretically speaking - makes little difference. This part of town was primarily commercial vehicles (lorries, buses, coaches, vans) the big chunk of this Felixstowe HGVs. When the bridge is closed - all buses are late. Not the bus companies fault, the congestion just delays buses. 702 Here is an Ipswich Buses bus proactively...

Orwell Bridge Closures: Emergency Services headache

by dan5 in Orwell Bridge ClosuresOct 20, 2017 with 0 replies and 32 views.

It has been mentioned before. So people will get caught up in traffic getting from A to B. You will lose your time. You will lose money through burning more fuel. If you have an awful boss you might even lose your job or expect to not be paid for the time you were stuck in traffic. None of it is ideal. But could someone lose their life? 701 The above picture is around 3pm. Pre-rush hour school run. Circled is an ambulance. I am not sure how...

    Orwell Bridge Closed September, October

by martinc in Orwell Bridge ClosuresSep 16, 2017 with 37 replies and 505 views.

Yes, there are signs around the town announcing that the Orwell Bridge is closed, September, October. And then it goes on to say somethingl like to avoid congestion avoid the diversion routes.. (need a photo!)Now hang on, this reads like the bridge is shut for a whole two months, how mad and stupid is that.We have had a letter at home from Kier sent to us presumably as residents on the diversion route to tell us they are doing maintenance...

Latest reply: Silence is golden.... Apart I suspect from the occasional truck bringing medical waste from all over the country to be burned at the Ipswich Hospital incinerator nothing much heard last night... :)
